While
sailing the
New England
coast for years, so many lighthouses have been enjoyed from
the sea… as the sailing Sea Captains of the past would have seen them.
It seems fitting these stately beacons should be photographed by
a United States Coast Guard Licensed Master on a
classic sailing vessel from the same fantastic vantage point… The
Sea...
The plan
is to photograph every operating lighthouse from Canada to Key
West, Florida...
We believe that this
will be the first time it has been done in this manner, and you are invited to join
Gypsy for this once in a lifetime voyage.
( YOU
may be able to actually sail on Gypsy to take your own photographs...
see the
"Opportunities" page...
)
Gypsy
will sail out of her home port…Centerboard Yacht Club in Portland
Harbor in Maine
‘Down East’ along
the Maine
coast to the Canadian border.
Gypsy will visit the beautiful Casco
Bay, Boothbay Harbor, Muscongus Bay, Penobscot Bay, Bar Harbor, and Blue Hill Bay...
photographing ALL the working lighthouses from the sea.
Some lighthouses will be photographed during this first leg
between
Portland
and West Quoddy Head.
The other Maine lighthouses will be photographed
on the return from
West Quoddy
to
New Hampshire
only weeks later.
Gypsy will visit so many historical places... lighthouse
museums, historic fishing villages, the famous Downeast Windjammers
under sail, old fishing harbors, uninhabited islands, all for you
to experience thru the periodic newsletters and photos.
(There will be
photos and movie clips to download for your personal enjoyment.)

Late
Summer-early Fall of 2008 |
Gypsy will sail south
to the
Cape Cod Canal
and on to Buzzards Bay, Narragansett Bay, Long Island Sound... and on to
the
Chesapeake Bay. Time will be spent cruising the beautiful
Chesapeake Bay and
photographing the many lighthouses before heading South to the
Gulf of Mexico for the winter season.
Gypsy will journey back north to enjoy and photograph the remaining
lighthouses on the US Eastern seacoast.
